Running through March 26, for the first time, Sitka Home Art Gallery is showing work by other artists alongside those by co-owner and titular artist, Sitka. The exhibit, “Four Arts,” joins local artists in craft, friendship and representation of Boston’s art scene.
Sitka and his wife, Helaine Gulergun, moved to Boston from New York in 2017 and with a desire to connect and converse with Boston artists — forming meaningful connections which Sitka excitedly compared to Florentine artists and legends of rock-and-roll. Those started in earnest in 2020 when Sitka Home Art Gallery moved into a space on Boston’s Newbury Street.
The gallery’s next endeavor, “Four Arts,” is an exhibition featuring Ann Gillespie, Robin Frisella, Thomas Darsney and Sitka. Gulergun and Sitka shared an anecdote of the moment Sitka realized that the names of the artists spelled “ARTS” on a drive back to the city from the Cape. Each artist brings their individual style to the show. They are connected by their proximity and desire to create new, exciting pieces that keep Boston arts relevant and special.
