The new year traditionally brings with it the introduction of the next lineage of artists welcomed into the Copley Society of Art through its New Members Show. “Selected by the Membership Committee of the Copley Society of Art, new members are accepted for membership only if their work is truly outstanding. This year, our new artist members represent a great diversity of backgrounds and media, including pastel, photography and watercolor.” Joining CoSo’s roster are C.R. “Renewal” is the theme of this year’s “Annual Juried Members Show” that opened on February 28 at the Copley Society of Art, 158 Newbury St., Boston. The exhibition, which continues the gallery’s tradition of covering a wide variety of mediums, including painting, photography, graphite and pastel, was curated by Meg White, director of Gallery NAGA. First prize was awarded to Acadia Mezzofanti’s illusionistic photograph, “Self-Portrait: Untamed;” Carolyn Latanision’s watercolor painting of a rusted steel engine, “Powered Down, Bethlehem Steel,” took second prize while Mary Hughes earned third p rize for her abstract painting, “Ice Flow I,” which evokes winter-ice surfaces. Manninen Center for the Arts at Endicott College, 376 Hale St., Beverly, Mass. NAWA was founded in 1889 as a not-for-profit organization of professional women in fine art and is the oldest art association for women. The Mass. (just off Route 30), Middlebury, Vermont; the show, organized by Art Services International, is built around nearly 200 works drawn from the Levenson Collection, the world’s premier private collection of Japanese art in the Deco and Moderne style, as well as 20th-century examples of metalwork in traditional styles.
