art: Flock
artist: Cathy Moynihan
medium: ceramic sculpture
I’m focused on making sculptures that deal with life-tender, whole, and new. My minimalist birds are especially peaceful as I hand build each one using the coil method, and then carefully examine each bird, scraping and shaving off the irregularities. I feel my work has an intimacy and comfort about it, inviting viewers to touch and hold it. Nothing makes me happier than peaceful to me with their elegant silhouettes, clean lines, composed posture, and pleasing proportions. They take hours to make irregularities in surface until the form is flawless. than when someone feels compelled to cradle or caress one of my pieces!
