“The East Unlocks its Gates: American Whalers and Trade in Asia” examines connections between America’s eastern seaboard and Asia. It explores the lucrative trade in hard goods between New Bedford merchants and the treaty ports of China, route-finding through the East Indies, and the story of American whalers and the opening of commerce with Japan.
“A Spectacle in Motion:” two exhibitions about the 1848 Grand Panorama of a Whaling Voyage ‘Round the World.

“De Wind is Op! Climate, Culture and Innovation in Dutch Maritime Painting”
Golden Age paintings reveal how wind, climate, and sea were drivers behind a
uniquely Dutch national identity. This exhibition coincides with the Summer Winds Festival run by Design Art Technology Massachusetts (DATMA) in New Bedford.
