Arlington Commission for Arts & Culture
Final months of Persistence, Michelle Lougee’s installation crocheted from thousands of plastic bags on view on the Minuteman Bikeway near Spy Pond. Free film screening May 10 — followed by artists talk — at Arlington’s Regent Theater of Robin Frohardt’s Plastic Bag Store, which uses puppets to follow a plastic bottle into a dystopian future where it is misinterpreted as the precious art of a lost civilization — ours. Michelle’s and Robin’s work emphasize that plastic never “goes away” and prompt reflection on capitalism’s disposable culture. The New York Times called the film “an emphatic work of activism that is also a wistful work of art.”
