KEROUAC: BEAT AND COUNTERCULTURE PORTRAITS

A series of portraits by Jonathan Collins of Jack Kerouac and other writers of the Beat and
Counterculture movement from the 1940’s to the 1970’s. An era spawned directly by Lowell’s
own native son, Jack Kerouac. The series was completed in 2026 and will be featured as part of
the Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Fall Festival.
200TH ANNIVERSARY OF LOWELL

Lowell being the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution holds a pivotal role in American history.
It’s preserved canals, mills, and neighborhoods make for an enduring symbol of American
ingenuity, industrialization, and social change, as portrayed by the members of the Lowell Art
Association.
