Art Basel Miami Beach 2025 was a blast. Miami was buzzing, but whenever someone asked me, “How was Miami?” I could only answer, “How was the Convention Center?” Because when you work as a guided tour educator at Art Basel, your entire world contracts into those walls, those crowds, those artworks and the choreography of a fair that never stops. Uber prices were sky-high, traffic was impossible and despite more than 20 satellite fairs spread across the city, it was challenging to get to all of them. My week began with training on Monday and continued straight through until the crates were rolled out on Sunday evening. One of my favorite rituals happens only after the fair closes: watching the art leave. After six days of nonstop motion, an entirely different performance begins: packing, wrapping, lifting, wheeling and sealing. A GOLDEN EVENT IN PARIS: AT THE GRAND PALAIS, ART BASEL WAS SPLENDID
I’ve arrived at the Grand Palais in Paris — one of the most beautiful buildings in the world — to attend Art Basel Paris. This is the first time I’ve ever attended such a large art fair. I am a watercolorist based in Boston, and I’ve never gone to any of the Basels. I happened to be in France because I just completed a two-week (very intensive) art residency in a tiny village at La Porte Peinte in Noyers-sur- Serein. After getting used to being in a village of just over 600 inhabitants, only one boulangerie, medieval structures and single-lane cobblestone streets, Paris hit me like a bomb. It is alive with people, filled with sunshine and cov- ered in gold everywhere you look. When I first walked into the Grand Palais, I immediately noticed how much the art inside the building spoke to the city outside its doors. There was gold everywhere in the booths. I was stopped in my tracks by … [Read more...] about A GOLDEN EVENT IN PARIS: AT THE GRAND PALAIS, ART BASEL WAS SPLENDID
THE ENDURING POWER OF ART: ART BASEL 2024: CELEBRATING CONNECTIVITY, DIVERSITY & GLOBALIZATION
Warning signs are missing at Art Basel, and they should say that if you suffer from FOMO, FOBO, MOMO or ROMO, Art Basel might be a threat. There is something going on for everyone in every corner of Basel, and it is related to art-engaging. The week’s mood is a social experience blending excitement for renowned artists with curiosity about emerging talents and immersive experiences. The Switzerland-based event maintained a cautiously optimistic atmosphere, balancing market concerns with a more relaxed pace, allowing diverse art experiences beyond the main exhibition halls. The art fair experience is changing and adapting to welcome a new generation of buyers or just fairgoers. This year’s event, held on June 13-16, cultivated an environment that significantly elevated interest in contemporary artistic expression by drawing approximately 4,000 artists, 285 distinguished … [Read more...] about THE ENDURING POWER OF ART: ART BASEL 2024: CELEBRATING CONNECTIVITY, DIVERSITY & GLOBALIZATION

An early announcement of high sales has promoted a sense of optimism.
