Attleboro Arts Museum’s September exhibition, “Here, I’ll Get that for You: Strokes of Kindness — In Art, In Life,” is a testament to the museum’s community partnership with Attleboro Public Library.
Museum Director and Chief Curator Mim Brooks Fawcett developed the invitational show that features work by 27 artists by asking them to pair their aesthetics with non-profits of their choice. The show functions like a lens to bring art and non-profit work into focus together. The result is a unique artists’ dialogue in relation to environmental and social activism. In this context philanthropy and creativity intertwine, relating the idea that acts of kindness are important and essential to quality of life.
The title of the show comes from a line in Paula Gordon Lepp’s poem, “Communion at the BP,” that was excerpted from “The Path to Kindness: Poems of Connection and Joy,” an anthology that was edited by James Crews. The book is among selections for Attleboro’s 2024’s Community Read with copies available free of charge at Attleboro Public Library — while supplies last. The exhibition opens at the museum on September 7 at 2 p.m. as part of the launch party for Attleboro’s Community Read. Calling the museum in advance of attending the opening to RSVP is recommended. Note: Attleboro Arts Museum admission is always free.
